Mercury Refining accepts large and small quantities of scrap dental amalgam for recycling of contained metals. In most cases payment is made for precious metals recovered. In our 50 years of experience in this field many tons of silver and mercury have been recovered, purified and recycled to industrial and medical users.
Mercury Refining is proud to be teamed with Dental Recycling North America, Inc. (DRNA). This pioneering company provides the U.S. dental community with efficient, economical systems that recover and recycle the high mercury content amalgam used in dental fillings. Water characterization studies in the U.S. and Europe have demonstrated that mercury contamination of municipal water treatment systems by dental waste is a serious and growing problem.
DRNA offers a closed loop amalgam separation system that scored a 95% efficiency rating in tests by U.S. and European municipal authorities. This system includes a chair-side particle trap that removes large particles of amalgam and a remotely located amalgam separator that captures the remaining fine particles. Periodically, DRNA replaces system components with fresh ones and delivers the used units to MERECO for processing. Staff in the dental office need not come into contact with the waste stream.
DRNA provides each client with documentation, which demonstrates full regulatory compliance, and with regulatory burden expected to progressively increase nationwide, DRNA upgrades its systems to maintain compliance.
